North campus has undergone a tremendous amount of change and students no longer have to limit themselves to canteen food. With every nook and cranny, nesting a cafe, the campus area is flooded with a variety of places that offer some great food without taking a toll on your pocket.

One such place, where you can easily rely upon for catching up with a couple of friends over some good food (and drinks!), either post the boring lectures (or during), is 1UP in civil lines.

Located at a distance of less than a minute from the civil lines metro station, 1UP is a cafe done up in bright hues which lend a fresh and clean character to the space. Offering ample space to throw a birthday party or just hang out with friends (with a hookah), 1Up has an indoor as well as an outdoor seating, perfect to make you feel close to nature with all the greenery around.

Whether you desire a savoury dish to satisfy your palate, or your sweet tooth is aching for a delicious dessert, you’ll be pleased to find that your options are plentiful. From breakfast options to some healthy salads to the calorie laden burgers and pizzas, you’ll find it all here.

Start you meal with either a chatpata tawa aloo chaat that is tossed in sweet and spicy chutney or with the fierce looking dry oriental chicken that packs a punch with spices. Coax your tastebuds with a thick and fulfilling shake and you’ll be good to go. While I enjoyed the strawberry cheesecake shake topped with strawberry crush, the mocha hazelnut shake and take a break(Kit Kat) shake were great and got finished in seconds. Though the chocoholic in me would anyday recommend their Triple Chocolate Shake. The name itself says it all about it’s chocolaty glory!

The golden fried and crisp chicken cutlets and the bun omelette with potato chips and dips are worth a mention and a steal deal at just Rs. 99.

Ensure that you have a good appetite or are planning to share before ordering one of their burgers or hot dogs. Good enough to feed two hungry souls, the burgers and hot dogs are huge and come along with beans and fries. I’d recommend the crunchy potato and coriander burger and the cheese laden crispy veg dog to fly your hunger away.

Pizzas and pastas form the quintessential cafe-style food and should certainly not be missed when at 1Up. Fusion is done best, and hence, the unusual and delicious butter chicken pizza, and the manarosa pasta(a mix of white and red sauce) came out to be the undisputed winners.

An aching for home-style food? Order one of their tiffin meals and you’ll be sorted. Choose either the homely chicken curry or rajma chawal, but paneer makhni, though may seem weird, tasted rather good.

Last but not the least, if you’re battling sudden sweet cravings, then 1Up has got you covered with the perfect fix for the same. Freshly made waffles, warm and crisp, paired with maple syrup, honey, ice cream and whipped cream, I’d recommend the chocolate fantasy waffles(for obvious reasons). Though the chocolate avalanche is an equally decadent dessert for any chocolate fan. Warm chocolate brownies, topped with chocolate ice cream and further topped with chocolate sauce and fudge, sharing might become difficult with this dessert! And if you are not a fan of chocolate(why?), then the banana and caramel waffles will be perfect to satiate those sugar cravings.
