Over music, good food and heady drinks at Depot 48

In a line: A classy restaurant in GK for those who enjoy music and good grub!

Cuisine: American, global, cafe

Price for two: Rs. 2000(approx)

Location: N 3, Level 2, N Block Market,Greater Kailash (GK) 1, New Delhi

Must haves: Fish empanadas, green apple and goat cheese quesadilla, wild berry compote and mascarpone cheese waffles

This new entrant to GK 2 market is the perfect place for intimate dinner or roaring lunches over some wine or heady cocktails along with the backdrop of some amazing music to get you in groove.

Huge windows overlooking the market and greenery add depth to the place that is done up in hues of brown and grey, thereby adding warmth to the restaurant. Cassettes used for making panels, naked brick bar, hanging filament bulbs and pictures of road trips on the walls add on to the element of quirk to this classy restaurant.

With its contemporary inspired global cuisine and a world class bar, Depot 48 is an extension of one of the celebrated restaurants by Ritu Dalmia, Depot 29.

The food here flows in the same vein as its predecessors in Safdarjung and has taken a few more culinary steps to offer us the best of café style cuisine. While the kitchen is all set to take your tastebuds across a culinary journey, the bar is also ready to offer some commendable concoctions that will leave you wanting for more.

Relish the complementary crisps with fresh tomato salsa or pair your drink with some warm and cheesy spanish artichoke and spinach dip that is served with crispy home made tortilla chips. The chicken wings with blue cheese dip though appear to be instagram-worthy, aren’t packed with a punch that one would expect with chicken wings. Golden fried fish empanadas with a flavour kick from capers and roasted bell peppers go merrily well with the spicy avocado dip. Don’t forget to scrape off the sweet beetroot dip to add another flavour to the already delicious empanadas!

For the health conscious audience, Depot 48 has some impressive salads that one could binge on without feeling any guilt. The quinoa and chicken salad tasted nice and had an element of sweetness and crunch with pomegranate seeds but its vegetarian counterpart with feta cheese and almond slivers that won my palate.

The quesadilla and taco bar will leave you spoiled for options. For meat-lovers, the bahn-mi style chicken taco with spicy sriracha mayonnaise will work just fine, but if you have an adventurous palate, then opt for the peppery and fresh rocket leaves, green apple and goat cheese quesadilla, that was surely a unique and delicious combination. Add an extra dose of calories with their delicious burgers, which are absolutely worth the few extra calories. Easiest way to try multiple burgers is to opt for the sliders which come along with fries and salad. The non-vegetarian slider platter consists of chicken, fried fish and prawn slider. While the chicken and prawn tasted great, the crispy fish slider was a little greasy. I am already looking forward to try their oh-so-famous lamb burger and jackfruit burger!

Keeping everything aside, get ready to fulfill your sweet tooth with some warm and indulgent waffles that will force you to come back to Depot again and again and again. Hot and crisp waffles, served with vanilla ice cream and syrup, make up for the perfect breakfast or dessert. The chocolate gianduja with caramelised nuts will make any chocoholic go gaga, but my pick would be their citrusy wild berry compote and mascarpone cheese waffles.

Confession: Overall, Depot 48, marked with the code of the area 48, is a very promising place that offers some delicious bites paired with swift service in a quirky and chic ambiance that makes it the perfect place to visit with friends or family.
