Isn’t it fun to go out with friends, loved ones or family, either for a roaring brunch or an intimate dinner? But how many of those meals actually become memories and turn out to be so good that all you want to do is to visit the place again and relive those memories?
Not as many, right?
While I do eat out fairly often, there is one restaurant that I can never get bored with, and always impresses me with its food and service, it is Yum Yum Cha!
An Asian restaurant that is adorned with colourful origami on the walls and ceiling, Yum Yum Cha should be your go-to place for when you’re craving to gorge on to some interesting sushis, drool-worthy dim sums or hearty mains. After capturing the market in Saket and Cyber Hub, now Yum Yum Cha has opened its gates in Khan Market, and I couldn’t have been happier.
While I already have a couple of favourites at Yum Yum Cha, the menu now has a few interesting additions which couldn’t be ignored by me, hence, that’s what I ended up trying on my last visit to the new outlet, and I am glad that I did.
Black bean prawn and lotus chicken are the new additions to the non-vegetarian dim sum menu but it was the fire roasted corn dim sum in the vegetarian dim sum menu got me drooling. A hint of garlic, spiciness from the chilli in contrast with the sweetness of the roasted corn, these dim sums went well with chilli oil and are my new favourite.
Coming to Yum Yum Cha and not trying their sushis is a sin. I didn’t want to commit a sin and hence, ordered the poke poke, pecking and rock & roll sushi, all of which are additions to the already existing sushi menu. Poke poke had a pile of Hawaiian raw tuna salad with spicy ponzu over the sushi and pecking had an interesting combination of crispy pecking duck with mango. It was the rock and roll sushi that got me rollin’ with the deep fried, crispy rock shrimp tempura that was tossed in a spicy mayo.
I had been longing to have a bowl of hearty and wholesome ramen, and I finally found it at Yum Yum Cha. The newly added cha su ramen consists of tender and juicy morsels of pork belly in a beautiful broth that has a medley of vegetables that add an element of crunch to this dish overall. Though this paper hot pot is for sharing, I am not sure if I’d be keen on doing that!
Even though I swear to end my meal with the banoffee sushi and new york cheesecake, I spotted the unusual sesame chocolate noodles and out of curiosity, ordered them. Dark coloured noodles sitting atop a stiff nutty ganache topped with swirls of white chocolate and crunchy bits of corn flakes, the dessert had an interesting play of textures with an undertone of nuttiness from the sesame seeds, making it the perfect dessert to end my meal with.
Confession: Overall, as always I had a great meal at Yum Yum Cha. Like all their outlets, even the Khan Market one too is a little cramped up, but the food and service are so good, that the spacing doesn’t come across as an issue. The new additions to their menu are promising and I hope they open an outlet in Vasant Kunj soon!
