When it comes to pioneering flavours, textures and ingredients, there’s no other cuisine that does it better than Asian. A celebration of everything delicious, Asian food is diverse and can cater to every palate while being healthy at the same time.
And its the love for Asian food that brought me to the newly opened restaurant, You Mee in Greater Kailash. Adorned with manga- graffiti walls and a chic seating with hues of crimson and brown, the new restaurant by Lite Bite Foods is promising and hits the right chord with most of the dishes at disposal.
The fuss-free menu takes you across a selection of sushi, dim sums, robata grills, ramen and other mains, and concludes with a selection of drool-inducing desserts. Though the liquor licence isn’t in play as yet, the beverage menu, without offering booze is able to please palates with an interesting variety of teas, frappes and shakes!
Being left spoiled for choice when it came to sushi, the reigns were left with the Chef who got me the super philly cheese roll, prawn tempura roll, volcano roll and garden dragon roll. Each of them tasted great in their own decided decadence, but the Super Philly Cheese Roll, that comprised of smoked salmon and philly cheese turned out to be a clear winner because of the textural balance.
Tiny parcels of flavour, dim sums were next to arrive. Demolished upon sight, the prawn hargow and New York cheese dim sums aren’t the dumplings you’d want to miss on to. The New York cheese dim sum, sitting over chilli oil, bursts with oozy Philadelphia cheese with bits of water chestnuts, that add a crunchy element. The good ‘ol prawn hargow, too, was done to perfection.
An interesting variety of robata grills was sighted but was weighed down when I saw ramen on the menu. Without a second thought, the signature ramen bowl was ordered. The best part is that one can select the type of noodles(white wheat or healthy purple) and the base broth(light, spicy or rich) for the ramen. I went in for white noodles(because purple wasn’t available) in the rich stock prepared with chicken, dashi and miso with their signature ramen. Consisting of chicken, calamari, prawns with seasonal greens, bamboo shoots and egg, the hearty and wholesome ramen was good enough to feed two hungry souls.
The dessert course is the most important amongst all, for me, and that’s where I saw You Mee lagging a little. The matcha cheesecake didn’t really have the intense matcha flavour that my palate sought for and the cookie cream pie was a disappointment with the crisp tart shell topped with just whipped cream and soggy cookies.
Confession: Overall, my meal at You Mee turned out to be fairly good. The service was on point, the servers gave good suggestions and the food was spot on. A little work on the desserts front will help to provide an all-encompassing experience, comprising of everything delicious.
