The educational hub, school capital of India and the current capital of Uttarakhand, Dehradun, is a gateway to popular hill stations like Mussoorie, Rishikesh and Nainital. Located on the foothills of the Himalayas, nestled between Ganga and Yamuna rivers, Dehradun often finds a lot of tourists in transit, going to either of the nearby hill stations.
Seldom does one realise that Dehradun, by itself, offers a fair array of must-visit places: be it the famous Shiv Temple-Tapkeshwar, the adventure-filled Robbers Cave, the informative Forest Research Institute et al. Post those, a relaxing retreat is what one seeks and that’s what Regenta LP Vilas by Royal Orchid Hotels, is all about.
Offering the largest banqueting space in the state of Uttarakhand and 74 well-appointed rooms, this luxury hotel offers a host of comforts and services that pay tribute to the royal spirit of Rajasthan. Situated at a distance of 10 KM from the railway station, the hotel is listed amongst one of the most elite hotels in Dehradun and offers some of the largest rooms in the city with private balconies, overlooking the lush green forest. It was this beautiful property, offering a host of amenities and services, that became my little adobe, last weekend. No stone was left unturned to ensure that my stay was filled with comfort and class, making it the ideal getaway that I needed!
Regenta LP Vilas offers four different types of rooms, namely: club room, executive room, suite and family suite, depending upon the requirements of their guests. The starting room i.e. club room is where I unfolded. Checking all the right boxes when it came to amenities, my room harboured rich and old-world elegance with superior modern comforts. Done up in hues of cream and brown, the room had warmth and vibrancy. High-speed internet, a 40″ LED TV, a non-alcoholic minibar that would get replenished daily, a tea/coffee machine, amongst others, made it a comfort-filled stay.
The beautiful property is complemented by two dining options: Zaffran- the all-day-dining restaurant and Coco- the 24-hour patisserie, both of which are equally good in their own decided spots.
Offering an eclectic mix of Indian, Continental and Asian delicacies, Zaffran is the multi-cuisine restaurant at Regenta LP Vilas. With ample seating at disposal, the restaurant boasts of a buffet spread, featuring a number of dishes, during breakfast, lunch and dinner(on weekends) along with the a-la-carte menu, available on all the days.
Being an early raiser gave me access to their beautifully laid out breakfast buffet, studded with a great selection of my favourite viennoiseries, along with English breakfast and Indian breakfast options, as well. Be it scrambled eggs with toast or puri bhaaji or masala dosa or just a light salad with juice, there was something to satiate every palate. For lunch or dinner, if you seek to resort to the a-la-carte menu, don’t forget to order the paneer lababdar, butter chicken, dal makhni and biryani. Flavourful, hearty and wholesome food is what Zaffran is all about.
A cutesy and vibrant, round-the-clock cafe, Coco, was one of my favourite parts of the hotel. With large window layout, the beautifully lit patisserie had a dessert counter for your sweet tooth and a bakery counter for those freshly baked breads. The tree-shaped bookshelves and pale-hued wooden furniture is what the beautiful cafe, Coco, is marked by.
The in-house bakery ensures that the shelves are well stocked with fresh goodies. While the puffs need an upgradation in the recipe to make them lighter and flakier, the dry cakes and breads are certainly worth a shot.
Pair them with your favourite cuppa and you’ll be good to go.
Keeping in mind their clientele, the hotel has multiple areas at disposal. The fitness freaks can head on to their well-equipped gym that’ll have a trainer to guide you through. A kids zone is maintained where your little ones can enjoy, while you, in the room right next to it, play carrom, chess, pool, table tennis or foosball. The jacuzzi on the terrace is perfect to unwind after a hectic day or to start the day with. But it was Amara, the boutique, spa and salon that had my attention drawn. Operating daily, you can avail their services every day till 8 in the evening. Hence, whether you’ve got to get ready, or want to buy something or if you just want to relax, Amara, will hit the nail on the head, for you.
Also, since the hotel has 8 different venues, each spacious and well lit, the hotel becomes the perfect place for any function. The guests can host their conferences, meetings, exhibitions, parties, shows, family functions and weddings, too!
