In the mystical land of Mahabharata, awe-inspiring Noor Mahal, the “Incredible Indian Palace Hotel” has been built on a monumental scale. It is a five-star luxury palace hotel inspired by India’s rich heritage and captures royalty experience enjoyed by Indian Maharajas over the centuries. A reflection of Rajputana and Mughal architecture, it stands out as a true blend of history, culture & aesthetics.
Set amid culturally rich land of Karnal, this palace hotel enjoys proximity to Delhi and Chandigarh, and gives an opportunity to soak in the old world charm of heritage hospitality with the most modern practices. Hence, it serves as an ideal getaway for those who appreciate luxury alongside a healthy dose of nature and wish to find stillness and meaning in the lap of greenery.
Noor Mahal has a total of 122 heritage-imbued rooms and suites at disposal, each uniquely designed to provide luxurious royal splendor. The rooms are elegantly decorated with a mix of bespoke furnishings, beautiful antiques and carefully chosen objects d’art that underscores exceptional attention to detail. Special traditional hand-paintings on the wall enhance the grandeur, tikri-work on the ceilings, immaculately engraved jharokas et al make one want to take a back seat to absorb it all at once.
I checked into my beautiful Club Room that was adorned by vibrant upholstery that represents a rich royal history of the land & subtle interiors. The separate work desk was abandoned, thanks to a much-needed getaway and the balcony which overlooked the beautiful courtyard was celebrated. Attention to detail is where Noor Mahal managed to win my heart at first sight. A personalized note, a bunch of fresh fruits and a dessert along with some tea-cakes to satiate my ever-craving sweet tooth.
With a tick in the box for luxury and comfort, Noor Mahal successfully double ticked the boxes when it came to the culinary side of it.
Brown Sugar: An all-day dining restaurant, Brown Sugar, offers both, buffet meal as well as an A`la Carte menu showcasing global favorites. The menu is expansive and offers something for every palate. Being a breakfast-centric person, I couldn’t have been any happier to see the myriad options that were available at Noor Mahal. From English to South Indian to North Indian, alongside an array of fresh breads, which I couldn’t get my hands off. Brown Sugar would totally give motivation for everyone to wake up early in the morning, just to savor everything that they have to offer. On both the days, I had a wholesome breakfast that lasted for over 2.5 hours. Guilty? No. Not at all. It was all worth it.
Polo Club: A colonial style English bar is the place to unwind creating the perfect ambiance for evenings with an eclectic collection of fine spirits, cognacs, and cigars. If fancy is on your mind, then this place should be your haunt. Adorned with a pool table and a bar that stretches to the length of the room, Polo Club definitely was one of my favorite places in the hotel, because of the old-world charm that it exuded.
Frontier Mail: Hands down my favorite restaurant at the property, Frontier Mail, an award-winning restaurant has been designed to recreate the legendary Frontier Mail that operated between Mumbai and Peshawar during pre-independence days. With elements taken from the actual train, the restaurant offers an incomparable choice of authentic delicacies that extend from Mumbai to Peshawar. I dined here in the evening, and it was one of the most memorable meals that I had in a long time. With Chef Anand Rawat at Helm, we saw some amazing dishes flowing in. Some of which were so good that even 2 helpings seemed inadequate, but had to be, because I didn’t want to miss on to the other dishes that he had prepared. Make sure that you order the tandoori dimsums, Italian fish fingers, Hara bhara kebab, rasmalai and the Tiramisu, that comes in its own edible cup, made with dark chocolate. Candle-lit with live music performance and immaculate food flowing in, Frontier Mail had my heart, and I’d be more than happy to come to Noor Mahal, just to dine here!
I even got to relax and pamper myself at The 7th Heaven Spa. The calm and soothing spa provides an array of services like facials, invigorating body massages, scrubs, special couple retreats, hydrotherapies and a variety of other treatments. I opted for a relaxing body massage that was just what I needed after a commotion filled work week.
Though in terms of experiences that Noor Mahal offers, if there is one thing that could give stiff competition to the beautiful meal that I had at Frontier Mail, then it would be the morning farm tour that they organize in their own farms, which are right behind the hotel. It’s a tour that’s available on request and one should get up at 6 in the morning to feel it in its full glory. Beautiful morning sunrise and chilled breeze (even in summers) accompany you throughout the walk of the farm where one can see a couple of the vegetables/grains which the hotel grows and uses in its restaurants (I happily stole a cabbage and some raw wheat!). The walk gets concluded with tea/coffee and snacks. It might seem daunting to get up so early on a getaway, but oh, it is so worth it.
Overall, Noor Mahal turned out to be a one-of-its-kind property in the region, offering true luxury, hospitality & experiences. My visit to Noor Mahal turned out to be the perfect weekend getaway to unwind and relax that I had sought for. Happy and how!
