Kebab. This very word has the capability of making my mouth water. Juicy, tender, packed full of spices, having a beautiful undertone of smokiness from the charcoal, kebabs are the perfect appetisers, which if paired with some roomali roti and chutney, turn out to be a part of the main course for me!
Even when I am going out for BBQ serving buffet restaurants, it’s the kebabs that I have my eyes on, not the main course.If you’re like me and love kebabs as much as I do, then this post is for the kebab-hunter in you.
Located in Mehar Chand Market, Lodhi Colony, M I Food Center is what caught my eyes, a few days back when I was in the market. The waft of the kebabs getting grilled over hot charcoal was good enough motivation for me to try it out. And hence, without any second thoughts, I got myself a couple of dishes to try.
There is no place to sit, so instead of sitting in the car and devouring what I had ordered, I chose to stand and eat on one of the tables that they’ve kept outside the restaurant. Unlike other places, MI Food Center is open from 12 in the afternoon till 11 at night. Except for Tuesdays, when they open from 4:30 onwards.
First I ordered a portion of chicken fry and afghani chicken. The fried chicken was sprinkled with some chaat masala and went well with the green chutney and onions that came along. The afghani chicken comprised of morsels of chicken doused in a buttery curd based sauce, that I had along with roomali roti and onions. This is something that I’d always try whenever I visit MI Food Center again. I spotted someone having shammi kebabs on the table right next to me, and since they were looking very appetising, I got myself 4 pieces of mutton shammi kebabs, and am lucky to have ordered. Deep fried and crisp on the outside and packed with a punch of spices, these shammi kebabs costed just Rs. 160 and were worth it.
I got to know that they’re famous for their changezi chicken, mutton korma and butter chicken. I got a quarter portion of butter chicken packed for back home. It certainly wasn’t the best that I’ve had, but for the price of Rs. 150, it didn’t seem to be a bad option.
Confession: Overall, the offerings at MI Food Center are perfect for kebab and curry lovers, and the price that they’ve set aren’t going to burn a hole in your pocket. I would definitely try some other kebabs and biryani on my next visit, which will be very soon!
